Kiddo Camp

August 3rd - August 7th, 2009

For children that have completed grades 3 through 5

Kiddo Camp is a child's dream come true. Simply put, this will be one of the most fun-filled weeks that your kid will ever have. Swimming, climbing, running, playing, tubing, creek-walking, worshiping and so much more! At the heart of Kiddo Camp is our love for Jesus Christ and our commitment to teaching and preaching the bible to children in fun and innovative ways. Most kids don't want to leave, and almost all of them come back. In fact, a good many of our volunteer counselors and helpers are former Kiddo Campers. We do Kiddo Camp because we love it, and because we love your children.

Cost

The cost of Kiddo Camp is $150 per child. This includes the week of camp, meals, snacks, crafts, rock climbing, hiking, swimming, high ropes, frisbee golf, T-shirt and awards. Everything your child should need is included in the fee. Extra money at camp is not needed and should not be brought to camp.

Leadership

Kiddo Camp is part of the Children’s Ministry of Valley View Church. Eddie Lee Brooks, our Children’s Minister, serves as Camp Director and Mark Vincent, our Executive Pastor of Ministries, serves as Camp Pastor. DeWayne Drake, our Activities Minister, serves on our Kiddo Camp team, helping in many areas. Paul Rhodes, our Middle School Minister also serves at Kiddo Camp investing special time into building relationships with upcoming 6th graders. The camp is staffed by committed, Christian adults and college and high school students. Background checks are required for each camp staff member.

Purpose

The purpose of Kiddo Camp is to strengthen a child’s relationship and understanding of God, peers and themselves. We provide each child the opportunity to explore and enjoy life in a “camp environment” participating in activities, cabin life, Bible study and meaningful worship on a daily basis.

It’s important that each child be fully involved in Kiddo Camp so family visits are not allowed. Due to the new gate for Otter Creek, there will no public access to camp except for check-in and pick-up at the designated times.

If any emergency arises with your child, you will be contacted immediately. Otherwise, “no news is good news” works! Phone calls will be made only in emergency situations by a camp staff member. Campers do not make phone calls.

Transportation

You are responsible for your child’s transportation both to and from camp.  If you need to car pool, you may contact Carol Burden to secure the names and numbers of other campers.

  • Campers will need to arrive at Camp Piomingo at 10:00 AM on Monday. Gate will be open from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Campers must arrive at camp during those hours. You will receive a parent pass allowing you to enter Otter Creek Park to drop off your child.
  • Parents are invited to a Camp Closing program at 5:00 PM on Friday. We will share highlights of our week and present awards to the campers. Following the program, parents and campers will gather all items and head for home. Gate will be open 4:15 PM to 6:30 PM. You must arrive and leave from camp during those hours. You will receive a parent pass allowing you to enter Otter Creek Park to pick up your child.
  • Any other public access to camp will be emergency only.

NOTE: Otter Creek Park is currently closed to the public but Camp Piomingo is in full operation. The main entrance to Otter Creek Park is now gated so there will be no public access to Kiddo Camp this year. On Monday morning and Friday afternoon camp staff will be at the entrance to allow OUR parents access to camp. No other access will be available during the week. Take special note as to the times that the gate will be open on Monday and Friday. Our staff will only be available during those hours.

Camp Piomingo is located in Otter Creek Park, about 30 miles southwest of Louisville, near Fort Knox. To get to the camp, take Dixie Highway (US 31W) south from Valley High School approximately 17-18 miles to Muldraugh and turn right on Highway #1638. The entrance to Otter Creek Park is on the right approximately 3 miles after turning off Dixie Highway. Once inside Otter Creek Park, follow the Camp Piomingo signs. In case of an emergency, campers can receive messages by calling 1-800-411-5822.
